Friday April 28th update

 !Hola familias!

This week in science we continued with small crawling and flying animals. Tuesday was very hands-on and students learned about 7 different animals. Ask your student about them.  Today we learned about the food chain.





In ELAL we worked on our stuck stories and we learned about silent letters.
In Spanish we continued to learn about food.  We learned about recipes and how frequently we eat different foods.
In physical education completed a gymnastics obstacle course.

Friday April 21 update

 !Hola familias!

Today we celebrated Earth day which will be tomorrow April 22. Students learned about composting in preparation of our own composting program which we will start next week. We also learned about how mealworms can eat styrofoam and that is one way of helping reduce waste that ends up in landfills.

For science we learned about the body parts of insects, arachnids, worms and snails.

In ELAL we are working on stuck stories and students have completed their planning and are now ready to start writing their first draft.

In math we are learning about 3D shapes and their attributes. 

In Spanish we are learning about food and today we learned a game where we guess a fruit, given some clues in Spanish.

In physical education we continue to practice gymnastics.

Tuesday April 17 update

 !Hola familias!

This week in math we are starting to learn about 3D shapes.

In Science we are starting our unit on small crawling and flying animals. We have a whole bunch of new critters in the class.

In ELAL we are working on stuck stories and started writing our own stuck story. 

In Spanish we are learning about food.

In physical education we continue with gymnastics.


School updates:

Yearbook: Deadline to purchase a yearbook is Friday, April 28. The cost is $21. If you want to purchase additional books per student, please contact the office Dalhousie@cbe.ab.ca  It is an optional purchase and can be paid for through your MyCBE account.

 

With the change in weather conditions, please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed for the weather and any changes in weather.  Additionally, please send an extra change of clothes with your child to school to be kept in their backpack.  This should include a top, a bottom, change of socks and underwear.  Recess and lunch is a great opportunity for fun and play in the snow and slush, resulting in wet clothing. The office has a very limited supply of clothes.  Thank you for helping us keeping your child happy and dry.

 

We are so excited to have parent volunteers back in the classrooms! Please ensure your police clearance has been correctly uploaded prior to signing up for one of the many volunteer opportunities. If you are unsure of your status please reach out to our lovely office team who will be more than happy to assist you with this process.

Friday, April 21st -Earth Day – students to dress in Earth tones and classes will participate in earth friendly activities.

***FAMILY FIESTA***

Friday April 14th update

 !Hola familias!

Today was our challenge day where students created figures using pattern blocks.



Reminders:

Dress appropriately for the movement unit- stretchy pants, no dresses, no skirts, bare-feet, no dangly earrings, hair tied back. 

Next Friday is Earth Day- come dressed in blue and green. 

Yearbook order deadline Friday April 28. 

Science:

This week we finished our buoyancy unit and we will be starting our unit on small crawling and flying animals next week.

Math:

We continue with double digit addition and subtraction with and without borrowing or regrouping. We are also practicing how to say numbers up to 1000 and skip-counting.

ELAL:

we are working on stuck stories.

Spanish: 

We worked on oral aspects of food. 

We asked and answered what we eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

April 11 update

This is a short week.  

Reminders:
Gym: we are doing our movement/ gymnastics unit- please make sure to come dressed appropriately- no jewellery or watches, hair tied back, stretchy clothes, no skirts or dresses please.

Thursday April 6th update

A reminder that there is no school tomorrow, Friday, April 7 and Monday, April 10. We look forward to seeing everyone again on Tuesday, April 11.

Our next parent Society meeting is on April 12 via Teams. Everyone is welcome. We hope to see you there!  Link and password will be sent out to parents on Wednesday morning. 

Our movement unit will start on April 11. Please see the separate email sent out regarding appropriate clothing and safety precautions.

April 4th update

 !Hola familias!

Welcome back!


This week we will be learning about parts of a sentence (nouns, verbs and adjectives) in English as well as learning about cumulative stories. 

In Spanish we are learning about food and reading aloud decodable books.

In Science we are building boats and testing them for stability and the ability to carry a load.

In physical education we are starting to count scores in curling.

In math we are learning how to say the numbers to 1000s in Spanish and also continuing with addition of 2-digit numbers with borrowing.
